Planning a Home Solar System in Canada
I’ve been building off-grid systems since 2005, and the biggest mistake homeowners make is guessing their power needs. Before buying hardware, list what runs daily, what runs seasonally, and what absolutely cannot fail in winter.
A typical Canadian home solar power system starts with load math, then we match panels, inverter/charger, charge control, and battery storage so the system works in January, not just July.
What Size Solar Power System for Home Use?
For many homes, daily energy use lands between 10 kWh and 35 kWh. Off-grid homes usually need extra battery autonomy for snow days and short winter sun hours. Grid-tied homes can run smaller battery banks because the grid carries overnight load.
As a rule, we size for real winter performance: panel production in low sun angles, battery depth of discharge in cold weather, and surge loads from pumps, compressors, and tools.
What we calculate with you:
- Daily and peak watt-hour demand
- Critical loads vs convenience loads
- Battery autonomy days required
- Inverter surge capacity for startup loads
- Roof or ground array orientation and shading
Grid-Tied vs Off-Grid Home Solar
Grid-tied with battery backup is a strong fit when utility service is available and you want resilience during outages.
Off-grid is the right choice where utility access is expensive or unavailable. These systems require disciplined load planning and a properly sized battery bank to carry winter demand.
If you’re unsure which way to go, start with a consultation and we can price both paths side by side.
What’s Included in a Solarwyse Home Package
Every package is built as a complete system so you are not chasing missing parts during install.
- CSA-ready, code-conscious core equipment
- Panels, mounting, charge control, inverter/charger
- Battery bank options matched to your usage profile
- Combiner/protection gear and wiring guidance
- Phone support through planning and install
We can start with a proven package from our package lineup or build a custom design through our custom package process.
CSA Certification, Safety, and Long-Term Support
Home systems need to be safe, serviceable, and inspection-friendly. We prioritize CSA-recognized components and practical layouts that are easier to maintain years down the road.
